Quick Overview

This system is great for powering 12 Volt DC items in a small cabin such as 12 VDC lights, ceiling fan, DC refrigerator, and radio.


This system will produce approximately 18 amphours of power per day (@ 12VDC) plus 2 cloudy days of reserve and 50% battery protection reserve (based on 4+ hours of direct sunlight a day).

This system has features that other's off-grid kits don't offer. First, we believe that all off-grid kits should have proper short-circuit/over-current protection. So, this kit has DC breakers for the solar panel array, the battery bank, and the DC load. This is also a convenient way to disconnect any of these power channels independently for safety, upgrade, maintenance, etc.

Second, our systems come with lightning/surge protection and grounding standard. This is very important to protect your investment from lightning and power surges.

Our system also comes with a battery box for storing the batteries outside if necessary, and for protecting others from accidental shock.

Finally, all the system electronics are stored in a weather-proof enclosure for mounting indoors or out based on your particular needs and circumstances.

And, you can create a hybrid solar and wind system by adding the wind turbine shown in Related Products at left. Keep creating energy even when the sun is not shining!

Module Mounting:

Module mounting hardware is not included with this kit due to the various mounting options. Choose the appropriate mounts based on your particular mounting requirements at left in Related Products.

Electronics Enclosure:

Weatherproof, vented enclosure houses the solar charge controller and DC circuit breakers.

Enclosure comes preassembled and prewired including a weatherproof, vented 12”x10”x6” fiberglass enclosure that is corrosion resistant. Hinged door with gasket and closure buckles.

Two weather-resistant wire strain reliefs allow up to 12 individual wire entries for battery, PV module, ground and load wiring.

The charge controller will automatically disconnect the load if battery voltage drops too low, protecting the battery from over-discharge. Charge controller has LED indicators for monitoring battery state-of-charge, charging status, etc. DC load should be 6 amps or less (lighting, water pump, inverter, etc.). 5 year manufacturer warranty!

Enclosure must be mounted vertically to prevent moisture from entering enclosure and damaging electronics. Contact us if you require a horizontally mountable enclosure.


Completely sealed, absorbed glass mat, valve-regulated batteries with efficient recombination. Sealed construction eliminates periodic watering, corrosive acid fumes and spills. Tank formed plates ensure voltage matching between cells. Rated non-spillable by ICAO, IATA and DOT, meaning easy transportation by air and no special containers are needed. This kit includes two lugs for attaching wiring to battery screw posts. 1-year warranty (conditions apply).

Battery Enclosure:

Marine-grade polycarbonate battery box with strap. Allows batteries to be protected outdoors and protects batteries from dangerous accidental contact. Holds (1) group 27/31 batteries.

- Vent holes in cover can be left open if not used outdoors. Otherwise use silicone sealant for vent holes. Ventilation can occur from sides of cover where cables enter.


This kit includes a lightning arrestor, 50 ft. of #10 bare copper ground wire and a ground acorn nut. To properly ground this system, attach the bare copper ground wire to the solar modules and also to the ground in the electronics enclosure. Ground both wires to an appropriate ground, such a ground rod (not supplied) or other earth-grounded metal conductor.

Balance of System:

Use outdoor, UV rated wiring or or wiring in conduit for all connections outside of enclosure.

You can add a DC load center if you wish to "branch" your DC loads. A compatible load center is shown at left in Related Products. Don't forget to add DC breakers to your order!

You can also add an inverter to your system. We recommend a pure sinewave inverter for powering equipment with sensitive electronics such as computers, televisions, and stereos. Connecting the inverter to the load-side of the charge controller and DC breaker allows for the charge controller to disconnect the load if the battery voltage falls below a safe level to protect the battery. The Samlex PST-15S-12A at left in Related Products can be connected to the load-side of the charge controller. Larger inverters must be connected directly to the battery bank. Make sure you place a fuse between the positive terminal of the inverter and the battery bank.
