All About Batteries
Solar photovoltaic modules create electricity. This electricity is in the form of direct current (DC). DC energy can be stored using a battery. The battery then discharges the energy as needed. So in a solar application, the battery will discharge energy during cloudy or rainy days, or at night. The energy from the battery can be used for various purposes such as powering lights and ceiling fans. It is important to note however, that there are different types of batteries.
The three main types are
, sealed absorbed-glass mat, and wet cell (flooded) batteries.Sealed batteries do not require regular addition of water to the cells and are called sealed because they will not spill their electrolyte if the battery is inverted. Flooded batteries on the other hand require regular maintenance and can spill if tilted. Each battery type offers several benefits and drawbacks.
